Reading is Grand!  Is a celebration of the important role grandparents play in the lives of children.  It is through their wisdom and experiences that children learn the unique cultural and familial values that helps them grow into valuable contributors to the global community.

Sharing stories, both oral and written, are the building blocks of literacy.  It is through this exchange that children learn about their world and how people relate to each other in it.  Shared stories inspire growth and encourage exploration.

On this day and everyday read and share stories with the children in your lives.

This project, presented by the BCALA (Black Caucus of the American Library Association) Services to Children and Families of African Descent Committee, is generously supported by the American Library Association as part of 2009/10 ALA President Camila Alire's Family Literacy Focus Initiative.
